The problem is that the update is not installing the graphical interface that is requisite to properly use the driver with the on-board sound device, aka configuring 5.1 channel sound. Note that the driver installation does complete, and the version updates to the expected number. Ill also add that an additional step I have taken is to go into the Advanced System Settings > Hardware > Installation and select Off for automatic driver installation.
