As I've been lucky to have had lingering warm and loving feelings for those I've loved and lost, it's nice to see that the creators of this film were able to show how healthy people can live and learn from past experiences. Somehow, I too wished that the storybook fantasy ending would have been the way things ended for those two, but the almost happy ending achieved a wistful poignancy that one seldom sees in the denouement of true love, in the movies. (spoiler alert) It's bittersweet ending is the subject of conjecture between friends and acquaintances of mine, with those 70 and up feeling let down, that the two lovers didn't get together for a "happily ever after" ending. I think that Stanley Donan would have been tickled that the sparkle of musicals of yesteryears, has been injected into a contemporary setting.
